People who suffer from insomnia have brains that can't stop thinking. It's a blessing and curse wrapped up in one. I hope that you at least sleep deeply at night when you do fall asleep.

If God's principles were so simple, there wouldn't be so many theology books on sale in Christian bookstores. :) Think about that.

@Gleefully - But they're on SALE! Things go on sale because people are having trouble selling them. X-) And I still think the principles are simple. The extrapolations and logical outworkings are a whole different animal.

I think a lot of those theological books are written because the ha256 is right... the principals are simple... but no one wants to seek God long enough to find them... so the solution often becomes buying a book that explains how someone else found them.  My mom buys a lot of 10 steps to healing, 10 steps to whatever you want... and I think it's silly.

About the insomnia, from a more nursing perspective, have you tried exercising during the day?  Try not to exercise within 2 hours of going to bed... because it can just keep you awake.  Are you sleeping in late compared to when you go to sleep?  You may be getting -too- much sleep... and that can cause it.  (Does for my husband, anyway.)  If it's only twice, though, it could just be a fluke.  Have you tried reading before bed?  I've read that using the computer screen or television before sleep can actually keep you awake.

I like what you did with that list.  I wonder how much different our relationships with God would be if we were more proactive than simply idle in belief.  To do rather than to know...

@cadency - thanks for the medical advice! I don't usually have insomnia. I think it was probably because I absent-mindedly ordered a Vietnamese iced coffee for dinner.

As for believing, I always considered faith to be active rather than idle. In my mind, a life of faith consists mostly of trust. And trusting God is definitely an active thing because the default seems to be to trust in yourself. The other thing that automatically popped into my mind was active surrender and passive surrender. I know many people consider how they must passively surrender to God, but not many consider how they must actively surrender to God. Know what I mean?

I also had insomnia last night - stayed up until 3 a.m. and woke up at 7 a.m.! After tossing and turning around for 2 hours or so, I got up, played a sermon, and fell asleep. :) I agree with you that Christian principles are simple, but profound. I did a study on "Experiencing God." It commands, "Know Him, Love Him, Believe Him, Trust Him, and Obey Him." Very simple, but how? And what they really mean? That's when it gets complicated.

I do.  It's the Abraham and Isaac sort of concept... (I hope I'm not confusing the lead names...) where... to surrender, you must sacrifice your son.  You have to drop off the most important and closest thing to your soul.

Active... standing at the alter, raising your dagger above the flesh of the closest thing to you...

Usually stress keeps me up, but I usually don't go to bed until I'm  ready to drop... I think I'm just a night owl by nature.

Sometimes thinking too much does complicate things. Wish I had an "off" switch. I thought you guys had an "off" swtich :P

Hey, sorry that you can't sleep. yep, only wish we could control it.

Love reading your simple summaries. Sounds simple enough but will take the rest of our life time to understand and apply it. Yeah, don't we all need to be reminded about the simple truth of God over and over. He is indeed gracious to us.At the same time, I'm very encouraged to read about you and your friends' comments. (don't you feel loved that so many friends that care about you? :P ) Agree with what Cadency says about how we usually end up buying/reading other people's experience with God. Shall we be more focus in developing our own relationship with God? I confess that it's more exciting and hopeful/encouraging in reading others experience. b/c their stories tend to progress faster and ended much more uplifting? we then should have hopes that one day our faith should grow as big as they are?  Actively surrender to God, hmm, that's quite a thought. will chew on it. thanks.Wish you a good night sleep there. ^_^
